Hi, I’m ruth
and I’m not a designer
but wait, why are you called ruthless design then?
… because I did used to be a graphic designer
In 1997 I graduated from the College of Marketing and Design (in Dublin, Ireland) with a degree in Visual Communications – photography and graphic design were my majors. I set off to make my name as a photographer but the assignments I got were soul destroying (nightclub photos, ew!) so I jumped ship and decided to be a graphic designer instead.
I worked for the man for a year before going to Australia on a work and travel visa. Despite carting my wooden A2 portfolio across the world with me (while wearing 7″ platforms that were too big to pack) no one wanted to hire a graphic designer with a three month work restriction.
When I got back to Ireland I freelanced for many years as a graphic designer. I moved to Australia in 2004 and the Ruthless Design business name came with me. I signed up to freelance agencies and subsequently found my niche as a creative artworker and long document typesetter. I didn’t miss graphic design one bit!
These days I work entirely from home and I guess you’d call me a creative virtual assistant.

InDesign
This is my happy place. Get your designer to create the look and feel and I can take it from there. I have the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite, I work on a Mac and have NBN.
I’m neurodivergent so hyper-focusing on completing client mark-ups is my jam. I have a keen eye for detail and follow artistic direction really well. I’ve been told I’m very fast AND very accurate.
Other Skills
I’m not going to claim to be a website designer but I do know how to make basic WordPress edits and publish blog posts.
I’m also not going to claim to be a digital marketer but I have done courses on the topic and I manage all the social media for my other businesses, including running campaigns in Meta Ads Manager.
FAQs
Will I work from your premises?
That’s a hard no, I’m afraid. I like my dogs too much and I despise commuting.
